I agree with Zack Snyder’s latest comments about Henry Cavill, and I know just the perfect role in the new DC Universe for the actor. I have always been a fan of Cavill’s casting as the DCEU’s Superman. However, I have to say the movies he appeared in, the story chosen for his Superman, and the way the prior DC regime treated him were not to my liking. Still, I don’t think Cavill was ever the problem with the DCEU’s controversial Superman decisions, and the actor appearing in future DCU projects would be amazing.
Of course, that return would not be possible as Superman. David Corenswet has already finished filming his debut as the DCU’s Man of Steel, with director James Gunn’s Superman arriving in theaters in July 2025. While I would have liked to see what Cavill’s Superman could have looked like with Gunn’s creative input, I would still be excited if the actor were to join the DCU in a new role. After Cavill’s latest film appearances, I think I know the perfect DCU role for him to leave the DCEU’s movies and Superman in the past.
I Agree With Zack Snyder’s Henry Cavill Comments
The DC Director Made A Good Point
Deadpool & Wolverine featured some shocking cameos, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie taking full advantage of the multiverse. One of the movie’s biggest surprises was Henry Cavill, who appeared as a Wolverine variant, aka the “Cavillerine.” Cavill’s DC director, Zack Snyder, was asked about the cameo. While Snyder’s response to Cavill’s Deadpool & Wolverine cameo was supportive of the actor, Snyder has yet to see the movie. The director did say that he heard about the Cavillerine and thought the role “sounds fun.” Snyder was then asked about DC executives having sidelined Cavill as Superman.
The question is connected to Deadpool saying in the MCU movie that Marvel Studios would treat Cavill better than “the studio down the street.” Speaking about the way Cavill was treated by DC, with his Superman going missing for years and never getting the requested Man of Steel 2, Snyder said, “It would be great to have more Henry. I always think you could have more Henry.” I agree with Zack Snyder, as more Cavill is indeed always a good thing. The actor is charismatic and a talented performer in action sequences, and I think the DCU could use Cavill.
James Gunn Left The Door Open For Cavill’s DC Return
It Will Just Not Be As Superman
I was very excited when it was announced that Gunn would be DC’s new creative chief, originally thinking Cavill’s Superman would benefit from the corporate change. I was saddened to know that Cavill would no longer play Superman — though David Corenswet was my pick for Superman years before he was considered — but a key reveal kept hope alive for Cavill to return to DC in the future. At the time it was announced that Cavill would not play the DCU’s Superman, James Gunn said that he had talked to Cavill about possible DC characters he could play instead.
So far, Gunn and Cavill have yet to reveal any of the roles that were discussed. Months later, Gunn debunked a rumor that Cavill was in Creature Commandos. The adult animated series is the DCU’s first project, and after rumors claimed Cavill would voice Frankenstein, Gunn said there was no truth to them. However, Gunn reconfirmed that he had talked to Cavill about future opportunities for him at DC, which got me excited. Cavill is a fan-favorite actor who has shown great skills as a specific type of character, and I know who he could play.
I Think Deadpool & Wolverine Makes Henry Cavill The Perfect DCU Lobo
He Will Have To Fight A Justice League Co-Star For It
I thought that Cavill’s brief role in Deadpool & Wolverine showed that he could make for an excellent Lobo in the DCU. The DC character is the comic book giant’s reaction to Marvel’s Wolverine, with both possessing powerful healing factors, an affinity for motorcycles and cigars, as well as being extremely violent fighters. Cavill also has multiple roles in his career that show he could do Lobo justice. Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare saw the actor play a character who had a lot of fun amid bloody mayhem, with Cavill nailing Lobo’s personality without actually playing him.
While Superman is Cavill’s most famous role, in second place is his time as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher. As Geralt, Cavill once again shows that he can bring the necessary grit and action skills that are needed for Lobo, DC’s cosmic bounty hunter. Lobo is a completely different character to Superman, which would be the ideal move if the DCU were to bring Cavill back, as it would avoid comparisons. However, I think Henry Cavill would have to fight his Justice League co-star Jason Momoa for the role, as the Aquaman actor loves Lobo.
