Tom Schwartz admits he doesn’t know a lot about Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s separation. But what he does know is that the split “was a long time coming.”

The Schwartz & Sandy’s co-owner addressed the topic during a recent sitdown with Access Hollywood, as his former Vanderpump Rules castmates continue to take “time apart.” Tom praised The Valley husband and wife for the way they’ve handled their separation and put their son, Cruz Michael Cauchi, first; however, he isn’t quite sure if Jax and Brittany should get back together.
“I should be careful with my words. I don’t know,” he said when asked about a possible reconciliation. “Part of me thinks they’re at the point of no return. I know they’re trying to work things out and they’re giving each other space. I haven’t really asked. I don’t know if they’re dating other people. I don’t know exactly what’s going on. But I think whatever is going to happen, this break was — it was necessary. And it was a long time coming. And I think some space will be good for them… I respect the heck out of how they’re handling it with Cruz, their son. It’s been very amicable and cordial.”
Tom Schwartz describes himself as a “divorce champion”
Tom is no stranger to marital breakdowns. The Minnesota native legally married his castmate Katie Maloney in 2019, roughly eight years after they began dating. The couple called it quits in March of 2022 and finalized their divorce about seven months later.
Tom alluded to the split during his Access Hollywood interview, insisting divorce isn’t always a bad thing.
“And, you know, a part of me hopes [Jax and Brittany] make it but there’s another part of me that’s a huge proponent and champion for separation and divorce,” he said. “It’s not really that sad to me. I think it’s much sadder when people stay together who are unhappy. I’m a divorce champion.”
Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor continue to co-parent amid their split
Brittany and Jax confirmed their separation in late February, after four years of marriage. Although they’re no longer living under the same roof (Brittany left their Valley Village home), they’ve managed to maintain a cordial relationship in the interest of their son.
Brittany spoke about the dynamic during the April 2 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
“It’s been fine,” she said about her and Jax’s co-parenting journey. “Like, Jax is a great father, I will give him that. He really is, so that’s our main priority, no matter what.”
