Since when does the Real Housewives of New Jersey ever have a competing guys’ night? The one-night event has always been hosted by either Joe Gorga or Frank Catania. The men get together to let off some steam, sip on Appletinis, and sometimes even take a shot out of one another’s butt cracks. All in all, it is usually a pretty hilarious night where the guys bond and don’t let the drama between their wives get to them too much. However, for Season 14, there seemed to be a clash of the titans.
Joe hosted the squad at his home for a fun poker night. Chaos ensued, including watching John Fuda explain why Italians never go to hospitals while he struggled to breathe due to anaphylactic shock. Quite frankly, it was one of the better guys’ nights. As John was being smacked with ice and forced to watch Joe pee in front of him, Luis Ruelas hosted his own form of guys’ night that just left me looking for an adult.
Technically, it was guys’ night in with Luis Ruelas
Being the host with the most, Joe told his wife that he “texted everyone to come to a guy’s night.” When it came to the guest list, he noted that Paul Connell gave an answer that was “a little wishy-washy,” and Bill Aydin responded that he had surgery. But Melissa Gorga was on the case, asking, “Who has surgeries on a Friday night?” But while talking to Jennifer Aydin, Bill acknowledged the text from Joe came too late noting, “I said I was in surgery for that night. But I have plans at Luis’!”
Joe’s setup looked way better if we were going to compare the nights. The Gorga house has a professional grill master with steaks and seafood. All the usual group, minus Bill, attended, including Joe Benigno, Frank, John, and Jeff Fessler. While Luis’ party consisted of Billy, Paul, Luis’ father, and his oldest son. I know which party I’d choose.
The mood is set for guys’ night with Luis Ruelas
I think most viewers of Real Housewives of New Jersey would agree that guys’ night kind of stopped being fun once Luis started coming around. Things felt weird at the Ruelas/Giudice house, as Luis explained, “What we chose to do with the guys here tonight is just be easy because we work hard! Food, maybe have a drink, talk, you know, and I have a surprise for the guys later.” Instead of surf and turf, Luis served a fresh taco buffet. But things got weird when they headed down to his “man cave.”
Luis surprised the guys with the opportunity to record “devotionals” for their partners. As a viewer, I immediately felt like this was a setup. I couldn’t help but wonder if Luis was poking fun at his island videos that surfaced last year. It also felt like these tapes might be used as blackmail further down the road. Honestly, I am shocked that none of these men stopped to question their host once about his motives.
Fans got major ick from Luis Ruelas
Luis’ boys’ night scene is forever burned into my retina. And it doesn’t look like I was the only one whose fight or flight kicked in. Personally, I would have been up those basement stairs directly after Luis said, “Hi babe, this is your husband, Luis.” Fans were left feeling uncomfortable with one commenting on Instagram, “This has to be the cringiest scene any Bravo show has ever produced!!! I’m shocked Pauley participated in this.” Another added, “What an awkward event. Louie is just strange.”
The scene left fans scratching their heads, wondering what Teresa Giudice really sees in the human blueberry. One follower made a valid point, writing, “Devotion video reminds me of Brooks affirmation cards to Vicki.” But all I could think was, “I wonder if Bill was wishing he was at Joe’s.” So Luis, let’s leave the videos and podcasts to the professionals, your wife. And please, for the love of God, don’t record any more devotionals.
