T’Vondre Sweat is improving, says defensive line coach Tracy Rocker
Tennessee Titans rookie tackle T’Vondre Sweat has been among the most divisive players on the roster this offseason. Sweat missed the majority of offseason workouts with a minor injury. He’s been a healthy participant at every practice throughout training camp thus far, including the open session that occurred at Nissan Stadium on Saturday.
The Titans were back at the facility for another practice on Monday. Members of local media spoke with the assistant coaching staff. Jim Wyatt posted an awesome discussion with defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, who offered a lengthy, honest evaluation of Sweat’s progress to date.
“He keeps improving and getting better every day,” Rocker told Wyatt. “The biggest thing is having a good attitude. He’s been a great teammate. [In regards to his] conditioning, the thing about football is, you can train as much as you want [in the offseason], but you can never be in football shape.”

Sweat’s conditioning has been a misguided topic for many. Some of Sweat’s teammates poked fun at big-bodied frame earlier in camp, which was misrepresented on social media as being more than it was.
Several big players struggle with football conditioning at the first few camp practices.Titans right guard Saahdiq Charles has experienced similar struggles, but those aren’t making the same headlines. The former Texas Longhorns defender appeared elusive and quick-footed during recent practices while showcasing consistent improvement.
“He’s back running and doing a good job,” Rocker added. “Jeff [Simmons] is really helping him along. Those first two days [of camp], he was all over the place, and not defensively,” Rocker joked. “He was trying to get his coordination back. Everything was back working simultaneously during Saturday’s practice. That was a plus. He keeps improving. He wants to be in shape,” Rocker concluded.
Dennard Wilson’s defense will be significantly better if Sweat is an immediate contributor. The Titans don’t possess terrific depth behind him and Simmons. This entire fan-base should be rooting for Sweat to reach his potential.
