Top NHL Free Agents Still on the Market: Who Will Sign Them?

As the NHL off-season progresses, the Edmonton Oilers are bustling with tasks, including pivotal contract negotiations and strategizing for salary cap management. The team’s immediate agenda involves securing deals for restricted free agents Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, as well as working on an extension for star player Leon Draisaitl.

However, the Oilers aren’t alone in facing a busy schedule. Several NHL teams are negotiating contracts with high-profile restricted free agents (RFAs), a situation highlighted by Daily Faceoff. Notable players still seeking contracts include Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider of the Detroit Red Wings, Seth Jarvis of the Carolina Hurricanes, and Thomas Harley of the Dallas Stars.

According to AFP Analytics, expectations for Oilers’ RFAs are set with Holloway projected at a one-year, $1.1-million deal and Broberg at a one-year, $874,000 contract.

Daily Faceoff lists some of the top RFAs still without contracts:

Top Remaining Restricted Free Agents:

  • Lucas Raymond, RW, Detroit Red Wings, projects a seven-year deal worth approximately $7.758 million annually.

  • Seth Jarvis, C, Carolina Hurricanes, is expected to secure an eight-year contract at around $7.75 million per year.
  • Thomas Harley, C, Dallas Stars, is projected to sign a seven-year contract worth approximately $6.922 million annually.

  • Moritz Seider, D, Detroit Red Wings, anticipated to reach a seven-year deal valued at about $8.126 million per year.

In other NHL news, Matthew Phillips, formerly of the Calgary Flames, has signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche, marking his entry at $775,000, according to Puckpedia. Despite a challenging stint with the Flames where he barely cracked the NHL lineup, Phillips showcased a strong performance in the AHL. His journey included brief plays with the Washington Capitals and a short stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins before returning to Washington.

Phillips’s move follows the path of Oliver Kylington, another player who recently transitioned to the Avalanche, which indicates Colorado’s strategy of acquiring tested talents to deepen their roster as the new season approaches.
