Length of service and natural leadership qualities has been a trademark of Rangers Chris Kreider — including this season.

After all these years as a Ranger it’s time that Chris Kreider has earned a nickname.

Judging by his torrid shots — especially on the power play — it would seem that “Rocket” would be a natural. But that one belongs exclusively to the inimitable Maurice “The Rocket.” Richard, the iconic Montreal Canadiens right wing of long, long ago.

The best The Maven can come up with is Chris “The Cannon” Kreider since the velocity generated by his blasts often reaches cannon proportions. Or, to put it another way, the current edition of Kreider most reminds me of Alex Ovechkin, especially when the Capitals’ captain is camped in his favorite bit of acreage on the left from where his most successful goals have come.

And speaking of captains — and leadership — The Maven steadfastly lobbied tor Chris to gain the captaincy for both his length of service and natural leadership qualities. (But, then again, that’s a story for another column at another time.)

Kreider has done absolutely what coach Peter Laviolette has asked of him this season and then some. He started the marathon strong — pushing the Rangers to the top of the Metropolitan Division — and he’s maintained that momentum right up to the present with the Presidents’ Trophy now within the Blueshirts’ grasp.

And if you want proof in numbers, just consider the following: Chris has 39 goals, 34 assists and 73 points and is a plus-17.

Without question, the Rangers foremost attack weapon is its power play and the gunner who best makes it work is the native of Boxford, Massachusetts.

So, why not, Chris “The Cannon” Kreider?
