“That’s what happens when nobody likes you” – NHL fans react to rumor linking ex-Ranger Tony DeAngelo to KHL

Tony DeAngelo has been a free agent for over a month. He may soon join SKA St. Petersburg, one of the leading teams in the Kontinental Hockey League. National Hockey League fans are talking about Tony DeAngelo possibly moving to the KHL. On Sunday, NHL analyst JFresh tweeted the following on X (formerly Twitter):

"That’s what happens when nobody likes you" - NHL fans react to rumor linking ex-Ranger Tony DeAngelo to KHL

“It would appear that Tony DeAngelo’s NHL career has come to an end.”

Fans reacted to the news on X.

“That’s what happens when nobody likes you I guess,” one fan tweeted.

“I can’t believe it lasted so long,” a fan tweeted.

“You can see exactly where he got exposed for being a bad human being,” one X user tweeted.
“I’m sure there’s a place for him on the Orange Man’s team,” a fan tweeted.
“F**king finally. Plenty of dudes with less baggage and more talent,” a fan tweeted.
“Georgiev DeAngelo reunion will go crazy next year in Russia… unless the Canes want DeAngelo again next year, which is entirely possible,” a fan tweeted.

Tony DeAngelo may join St. Petersburg for upcoming KHL season

Hockey News Hub first reported on Twitter that DeAngelo might join St. Petersburg for the upcoming season. Although unconfirmed, this would be a significant move for the KHL team. St. Petersburg just signed forward Evgeny Kuznetsov, who left the Hurricanes. This raises questions about their ability to afford another star player like DeAngelo. KHL teams must stay within the salary cap; however, they can restructure contracts or cut players.

Last season, DeAngelo played for the Carolina Hurricanes. He appeared in only 31 games, scoring three goals and eight assists for 11 points. This was a decline for the usually reliable offensive defenseman. Despite off-ice issues, DeAngelo has always produced on the ice. He has 48 goals and 162 assists for 210 points in 371 NHL games.

DeAngelo’s best season was in the shortened 2019-20 campaign with the New York Rangers. He scored 53 points (15 goals and 38 assists) in 68 games. He achieved another 50-point season later in his career. Picked 19th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014, DeAngelo began his NHL career with the Arizona Coyotes in 2016-17. He also played for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2022-23 season.
