Melissa Gorga and Teresa Giudice haven’t been on speaking terms since Season 13 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but do they have the same interpretation of what “girl code” means?
The ladies and several of their RHONJ castmates, including Margaret Josephs, Jennifer Fessler, Rachel Fuda, Danielle Cabral, and Jackie Goldschneider all individually popped by Bravo headquarters in New York City throughout Season 14 to discuss what girl code means to them in their friendships.
As can be expected, the estranged sisters-in-law can’t even get on the same page when it comes to their definition of “girl code” in friendships.
“As long as you’re not hurting anybody, and you’re a good friend to me, then I’ll be a good friend back to you,” Melissa exclusively told BravoTV.com when she visited, which you can check out by watching the video at the top of this post. “Girl code of just, like, live and let live.”
When her sister-in-law popped by in July, she had a different understanding. “You can never go with a guy that I used to date,” Teresa said. “Like, that was a no-no.”
She still feels similarly now. “At this point in my life, yeah, don’t speak to anyone’s exes,” she added.
The RHONJ ‘Wives weigh in on the “girl code” debate
Teresa and Melissa weren’t the only Garden State residents to share their thoughts on friendship. Jackie had a similar interpretation to Teresa. “Girl code to me is like if I dated somebody and had an intimate relationship with them, you can’t go and date them,” she explained during her own chat at the Bravo office.
Jennifer Fessler was more aligned with Melissa’s way of thinking. “It’s not deep,” she said. “I try to be a nice person, and try to be a supportive friend, and a loyal friend.”
Danielle also spoke about loyalty. “I’m old school ways, where if you tell me something, I’m going to keep it in forever. If you’re my girl, I’m going to have your back. I’m not going to go into situations and talk sh-t about you…” Danielle said. “Girl code is having someone’s back.”
Margaret didn’t feel like she had a specific girl code. Instead, she said she operates off of “the human code.”
“It’s the code for humanity. Do what you say, and say what you do,” Margaret said. “Say what you mean and mean what you say… Walk the walk.”
Rachel opened up about friendships, possibly alluding to the fallout of her relationship with Jennifer Fessler.
“If you are friends with somebody, and you want to befriend someone they don’t like, that’s fine,” Rachel shared. “Don’t sh-t talk the person that you are also being friends with.”
“The main thing here is we’re not all abiding by the same code,” Rachel added.
