Lindsay Hubbard weighed in on Carl Radke‘s conversation with his stepdad, Lou, which aired on last week’s episode of Summer House, in the comments section of an Instagram post.
After Lou raised concerns about the now-ex-couple‘s relationship, admitting he wouldn’t have married them himself, Lindsay, 37, seemingly accused Carl, 39, of planting a narrative about their breakup, as he admitted to feeling she wasn’t fully supportive of him being sober.
“What did you think of Carl’s convo with his family?” Two Judgey Girls had asked.
“He should go into gardening!” Lindsay replied, as seen in a screenshot shared by Comments by Bravo on April 26 on Instagram, seemingly suggesting Carl was planting seeds.
Also following last week’s episode, Carl appeared on the After Show, where he suggested that Lindsay wasn’t fully supportive of his sobriety.
“On one hand, Lindsay has absolutely been supportive. It’s hard to be in a relationship with someone like myself who has some of these challenges, and I understand that, and I’ve been so appreciative of her even trying to understand more and learn,” Carl began on the April 25 episode of the Summer House: After Show.
“However,” he continued, “I think if you’re going to spend the rest of your life with someone who has, and has very clearly stated, that he never is going to drink again and cannot, that you would want to understand that more and really try to wrap your arms around that in a positive way.”
Carl then looked back at the Summer House season seven reunion, recalling Andy Cohen, 55, discussing Al-Anon, a group set up for people who’ve been impacted by someone else’s alcoholism, with Lindsay.
“That’s the first time I heard her talk about it and that’s the last time I heard her talk about it,” he stated. “So yes, she was supportive to an extent but I think if you’re planning on spending the rest of your life in a committed relationship and building a strong foundation, there needs to be more understanding of those nuances and I don’t believe we got to that point.”
“Saying you support me and actually supporting me are two different things,” he added.
Meanwhile, in her own segment of the After Show, Lindsay clarified that she had never agreed to be sober forever.
“All I promised was helping him get to his one-year milestone and then I went extra. Great. I felt good. I looked good. All the things. My boyfriend was happy. I never committed to a lifetime of sobriety,” she explained. “When he proposed, I was drinking. So then you are accepting that I drink and you don’t. You proposing to me during a time when I’m drinking means you’re accepting that for the rest of your life, and now, all of a sudden, I’m getting judged all the time.”
According to Gabby Prescod, 32, she felt Carl’s opinion of Lindsay’s drinking was “conditional.”
“When you’re happy, when you were free-loving, not emotional, [it’s] fine,” she noted. “He was picking and choosing what instances … and it had no bearing on your alcohol intake whatsoever. It just had a bearing on your emotional state.”
“I’m not allowed to have emotions other than happy,” Lindsay agreed. “A lot of lessons were learned in that.”
Following their August 2023 breakup, Lindsay said that when it comes to her future partner, she’ll never be with someone who tries to change her — or someone who can’t deal with emotions.
“Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I’m stressed out. Sometimes I’m anxious about something. Sometimes I’m on edge about something. We are human,” she shared.
Although Lindsay was devastated after her and Carl’s split, she had the love and support of her friends, including Gabby, and she now feels the breakup was the “best decision.”
“Gabby came over every single day for two weeks [after the breakup] and just sat with me. You were such a blessing. It just makes me emotional,” Lindsay admitted. “You were just incredible and amazing. We put everything on the table and we got our monocles out … and we were like ‘Okay! What happened here?’ And then when we popped back up, we were like, this was the best decision that could’ve happened.”
