Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke had the same argument yet again on the May 23 episode of Summer House.
At the beginning of the episode, Lindsay, 37, admitted she’d been “walking on eggshells around Carl,” 39, for days after her fiancé drove off without taking her luggage at the end of their previous weekend in the Hamptons. Things only got worse when Carl came to Lindsay after a discussion with Kyle Cooke about his rejoining the company to work on its nonalcoholic beverage launch.
“Did you guys negotiate in that conversation?” Lindsay asked Carl.
“No, we did not,” Carl responded. “He was sharing things that were kind of in line [with] what I was thinking. I still have not gotten nothing in writing and I need something in writing to actually move forward.”
Carl shared the details of Kyle’s verbal offer, which included receiving 10% of profits, $2,000 for each appearance and a $3,000 monthly stipend.
“I feel pretty excited about something,” Carl said to Lindsay. “I understand where you’re coming from but I’m just hoping for a little more, ‘Yeah, that’s awesome, I’m here to help you in any way I can.’ And let’s have a good party and move on.”
Lindsay reiterated that sentiment to Carl without any sincerity, and he didn’t appreciate it. “What on earth am I supposed to be like ‘yay’ about? Nothing has been done,” the former publicist said.
Carl eventually left the room, telling Lindsay, “You decide what I’m going to do with my career. That’d be great. I’m done.”
They revisited the discussion by the pool at West Wilson’s apocalypse party. “I want to help you figure out what’s best for you but you’re telling me I’m interrogating you,” Lindsay said to Carl.
Carl said yet again that he just wanted Lindsay to be on his side. “A big thing that I’m hoping for and needing in this relationship is sometimes for you to be less inquisitive and questioning but more softness and tenderness,” he explained.
Lindsay questioned why Carl needed her to be “soft and sensitive” and said he offended her “continuously” by asking her to be that way.
“I think you have said a lot of offensive things to me too,” Carl retorted.
Ultimately Lindsay felt like Carl wanted her to change her personality. “The word that I think you’re looking for is that you need a Stepford wife. And I am never going to be that person,” she said. “You are asking me to be somebody that I’m not.”
The conversation ended with Carl saying, “It’s a lot. It’s a f—ing lot.”
Elsewhere at the party, Carl and Lindsay’s housemate Paige DeSorbo suggested that the pair shouldn’t get married in a few months. As Summer House fans know, they ultimately didn’t, because Carl called off the engagement at the end of the summer.
“You’ll really watch the relationship unfold,” Carl told PEOPLE ahead of the season 8 premiere. “There may be things that I watch that I’m not going to be proud of and wish I handled differently. I’m trying to just pray for some grace for the both of us, because it’s going to be hard to relive. But I think the best way [for people to understand] is unfortunately to see it firsthand.”
