The New Orleans Saints have an intriguing running back situation. Alvin Kamara wants a reworked deal and has missed time inside the building in order to make that clear earlier in the offseason.
Kendre Miller is a talented, young playmaker, but he has legitimate medical concerns after missing time last year. Jamaal Williams is the other notable RB in the room. He led the NFL in touchdowns in 2022, but he scored just one in 2023 for the Saints.
His first year in black and gold did not quite go as planned from a production standpoint, but that has not stopped Williams from rejoicing in New Orleans, as a whole.
Saints RB Jamaal Williams loves the people of New Orleans
Williams has always been held in high regard for his personality and leadership.
That’s been the case for the running back since his NFL days began in Green Bay. He’s a light for his teammates, and fans have always cherished that characteristic in him, too.
Fans in the building when he scored his touchdown last season went wild. It was a unique case where players, led by Jameis Winston, decided that Williams deserved a moment like that one during a disappointing season for the vet. They agreed to it, and the coaches were surprised by the decision in a blowout of the Atlanta Falcons.
The Saints need a bounce back year from Williams
He will have plenty of competition in 2024 alongside Kendre Miller of the main backup role behind Alvin Kamara. That is, if Kamara and the Saints work out his contract situation in order for him to return to the team.
It’s unknown if he would skip out on regular season games without a new deal. If that happened, Williams would get even more reps to prove himself as an important piece to the Saints offense. Regardless, he must impress more often than he did last year if he wants to keep a role in New Orleans. — A to Z Sports
2024 needs to be an improvement for the Saints running back room – in totality. Williams can be a key contributor to that.
