Red Sox catching/first base prospect Mickey Gasper reached base four times (two singles, two walks) and scored four runs in Triple-A Worcester’s 9-6 win over Syracuse on Wednesday.
Boston selected Gasper from the Yankees in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft in December.
The 28-year-old is batting .389 with a .509 on-base percentage, .627 slugging percentage, 1.136 OPS, six homers, 12 doubles, 29 RBIs and 32 runs in 37 games (159 plate appearances) at Worcester. He began the season at Double-A Portland. Between the two stops, he has posted a .332/.454/.537/.991 line with 10 homers and 25 doubles in 81 games (335 plate appearances).
Gasper has more walks (54) than strikeouts (35).
He graduate from Merrimack High (N.H.) and Bryant University. Gasper actually grew up a Yankees fan in New Hampshire because his parents are from New Jersey.
“(Because of) work my parents ended up bringing us up to New Hampshire where I was surrounded by Red Sox fans, Gasper told MassLive in January. “And I was able to hold my ground even through 2004 when I was in fourth grade and my heart was broken.”
New York drafted him in the 27th round in 2018 and he played five seasons in its minor league system.

~ Center fielder Roman Anthony went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs out of the leadoff spot in Double-A Portland’s 13-8 win over Altoona on Wednesday. Anthony, the No. 18 prospect on Baseball America’s Top 100 list, is batting .268 with a .366 on-base percentage, .474 slugging percentage, .840 OPS, 13 homers, 19 doubles, three triples, 39 RBIs, 55 runs, 46 walks and 92 strikeouts in 81 games (361 plate appearances) for Portland.
~ Kristian Campbell went 2-for-4 with an RBI, walk and strikeout in Portland’s win. Baseball America ranks Campbell No. 99 on its Top 100 list. The 22-year-old right-handed hitter is batting .376 with a .476 on-base percentage, .549 slugging percentage, 1.025 OPS, four homers, 16 doubles, one triple, 28 RBIs, 39 runs, 29 walks and 31 strikeouts in 46 games (208 plate appearances) since his promotion to Portland.
~ Catcher Elih Marrero went 4-for-5 with two homers, two doubles, four RBIs and three runs in Portland’s win.
~ Outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia’s breakout season continued Wednesday. He went 4-for-6 with a double, four RBIs, two runs and two strikeouts in High-A Greenville’s 12-8 win over Winston-Salem. He’s batting .303 with a .367 on-base percentage, .626 slugging percentage, .993 OPS, 16 homers, 12 doubles, two triples, 33 RBIs, 44 runs, 12 walks and 49 strikeouts in 50 games (218 plate appearances) since his promotion to Greenville. . He’s now ranked No. 18 on Baseball America’s Top 30 organizational list and No. 17 on MLB Pipeline Top 30 organizational list.
