Rachel Lindsay recalls feeling ‘weirded out’ and ‘scared’ after now-ex Bryan Abasolo proposed

Rachel Lindsay looked back on the early days of her engagement to her now-ex Bryan Abasolo saying she felt “weirded out” and “scared” after saying yes to the chiropractor’s proposal on Season 13 of “The Bachelorette.”

“I was very quiet on the way home. I was weirded out,” Lindsay, 39, said on Tuesday’s episode of Curtis Stone’s “Getting Grilled” podcast.

Ahead of her time on the show, Lindsay “did not think [she] was getting married.”

“I was scared,” she continued. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, now I have to tell my parents that I got engaged,’ because when I left to go do ‘The Bachelor[ette],’ I was like, ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going to fall for any of these men,’ and I did, so I was so terrified to tell them.”

Over time, however, the former “Extra” correspondent said she and Abasolo were able to bond over their shared interests.

“After that first night, I was like, there’s potential here, but I still was like, ‘There’s no way I’m gonna marry this person.’ And even when you get engaged at the end, it’s the scariest day when the cameras shut down,” she said.

“But you have this ring on your finger, and there’s this man, and for the first time, you ride in the car together, you’re going to the same hotel room together. It’s like, this is the beginning of your new life.”

After their 2017 engagement, Abasolo and Lindsay tied the knot in Mexico in August 2019.

They were married for nearly five years when the chiropractor filed for divorce in January 2024. Abasolo cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.

Abasolo also asked the court for $16,000 per month in spousal support, but was awarded two monthly payments totaling $13,257 by a judge.

Last week, he filed another set of court documents telling a judge that Lindsay referred to him as a “leech” after she electronically transferred the funds over to him.

In a text message sent to Abasolo to show the confirmation of funds sent, the message from Bank of America read: “BofA: Glender Ruth Llc sent you $6,628.50 for ‘Temp Leech Money.’”

“From day one, I have been committed to working cooperatively with Rachel and her professionals to amicably resolve this case,” Abasolo, 44, wrote in his filing, which also included a screenshot of the alleged “offensive” text.

“But Rachel continues to obstruct the process while spinning false narrative about her ‘cooperation’ to the court. She continues to instigate confrontation, just as she did prior to my filing for divorce.”
