Despite some rumors indicating the Rangers could trade for Trevor Zegras, that is likely not going to happen.
There have been rumors about a potential Trevor Zegras trade for what seems like the entirety of the offseason.
One of the teams that have been linked to have interest in the Anaheim Ducks’ young forward is the New York Rangers.
Despite some rumors indicating that the Rangers could be a player in the Zegras sweepstakes, that doesn’t actually seem to be the case after all.
“I don’t think the Rangers have ever been interested in Zegras, much as the local kid would love to be a Ranger.” The Athletic’s Arthur Staple wrote. “And if the Rangers were in on either of those guys [Alex Tuch being the other], it would take a lot more than Kakko as the centerpiece of whatever was going the other way.”
While Zegras is an enticing piece to acquire, at this point in time it doesn’t make much sense for the Rangers.
The 23-year-old has already been dealing with some injury problems as he only played 31 games this past season, recording six goals, nine assists and 15 points.
On top of all of that, the Ducks would most likely ask for a king’s ransom in exchange for Zegras that just wouldn’t be worth it for New York.
With about over a month to go until the start of training camp, the Rangers aren’t likely to make any drastic changes to the roster including a trade for Zegras.
