The Tampa Bay Lightning’s prospect pool may not be among the NHL’s best, but they still have some rather intriguing youngsters with bright futures in their system. One specific player who Lightning fans should be keeping a very close eye on during the 2024-25 season is forward Ethan Gauthier.
Gauthier, 19, was selected by the Lightning with the 37th overall pick of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The 5-foot-11 forward has the potential to blossom into an impactful NHL forward later down the road, and his production in the QMJHL this past season effectively displays that.
After posting 30 goals and 69 points in 66 games with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in 2022-23, Gauthier had an even better campaign with the Drummondville Voltigeurs last season, recording 36 goals and 71 points in 64 games. It was an excellent step in the right direction for the Scottsdale, Arizona native, and there is reason to believe that he will have an even better season in 2024-25 from here.
It is no secret that the Lightning would benefit from having more skilled wingers on their NHL roster. While Gauthier is not expected to make the jump to the NHL next season, he does not appear to be too far away. If he puts together another big year in junior this upcoming season, don’t be surprised if he gets some big-time reps with the Lightning in 2025-26.
