Patrick Beverley is a Chicago native and a huge Michael Jordan fan. Recently, the ex-NBA star shared the moment when he met his idol on vacation in St. Tropez. Growing up, Beverley watched Jordan lead the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships on TV. However, he never thought he’d meet him in person.
That changed when Beverley’s wife surprised him with a trip to St. Tropez for his 36th birthday. Coincidentally, Michael Jordan was also there celebrating his wedding anniversary. As such, Beverley revealed the hilarious conversation he had with Jordan. The ex-NBA star said Jordan commented on the size of their respective boats. Nevertheless, it was a ‘full-circle’ moment for Pat Bev.
You see him every day, I’m talking about like Grandma’s crib, small TV not even as big as this fu**** table right here on the porch, everybody in the house. I go to St. Tropez for my birthday, Michael Jordan’s there. Hey like when I say full-circle moment I mean like I went from in Chicago in the hood watching this man on TV to being in Saint Tropez, him and his lady, me and my lady. He came in on a boat. Despite the difference in their boats, Pat Bev was thrilled to meet his childhood hero and reflect on his own journey to success. It is not every day that one gets to meet their hero and have a cordial conversation with them.
Beverley’s path to the NBA was not easy. He went from being a college player to being declared ineligible and starting his career in Ukraine. However, he persevered and eventually made it to the league, earning a reputation as one of the toughest defenders.
Patrick Beverley names his top 3 defensive guards in NBA history
Patrick Beverley, a renowned defensive specialist, has his choice of the best defensive guards in NBA history. With his extensive experience as a defensive guard, Beverley’s opinion carries significant weight. As such, Pat Bev picked the top 3 defensive guards on The OGs Show.
Even though he didn’t include himself, Beverley’s selection process was likely influenced by his own playing style and the guards he faced throughout his career. Only one current player made the top 3, as the other two were retired legends.
All time? Gotta go (Gary Payton)… I put Michael Jordan in there and I’m going Kawhi (Leonard) three if he’s considered a guard. Patrick Beverley via The OGs Show
Other defensive guards like Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, and John Stockton missed out on the top 3. His choices of Gary Payton, Michael Jordan, and Kawhi Leonard might have been shaped by factors like quickness, anticipation, and the ability to disrupt opponents’ offenses. Although Beverley doesn’t give specific picks, he sets the stage for an intriguing discussion.
