After almost losing to South Sudan in an exhibition match, Team USA adjusted and found a way to defeat them in the Olympics. Along the way, All-Star big man Bam Adebayo played really well, leading Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade to applaud him.
The United States men’s basketball team continued their dominant run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, securing a spot in the quarterfinals with a 103-86 victory over South Sudan. Led by the trio of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Bam Adebayo, Team USA showcased their depth and talent, overcoming a tough challenge from the inspired South Sudanese squad.
Despite the comfortable final margin, the game was closely contested, with South Sudan repeatedly cutting the deficit to single digits in the second half. Nuni Omot and Bul Kuol sparked a spirited comeback, but the American’s superior firepower and defensive intensity proved too much to overcome.
James and Durant combined for 26 points, while Adebayo led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds. The bench unit, which included Devin BookerOlympics, Bam Adebayo and Derrick White, also made significant contributions, underlining the team’s depth and versatility.
With this win, the United States joins host nation France, reigning world champions Germany, and Canada as the teams that have secured their place in the quarterfinals. South Sudan, despite the loss, remains in a good position to continue their impressive run, needing a victory over Serbia in their final classification phase game to advance to the next round.
Miami Heat Legend Dwyane Wade Applauds Bam Adebayo’s Team USA Performance Against South Sudan at the Olympics
While James and Durant are undoubtedly the bigger names in the game, Adebayo surprised everyone by dominating on the offensive end of the court. This prompted Wade to rave about the Miami Heat big man in a post he shared on his official X account.
Just last season, Adebayo averaged 19.3 points on 52 percent shooting from the field, 10.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He is also a three-time All-Star and has been named to five All-Defensive teams throughout his career in the league.
Although Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid spent the game on the bench, Team USA still found a way to dominate South Sudan in the Olympics. Thanks to Adebayo’s timely performance, the LeBron James-led squad appeared more threatening than ever.
