Jack Michaels has built an incredible connection with Oilers fans since joining the team in 2010, and in a new interview with Jason Gregor, he revealed his favourite call of his career.
Michaels cited McDavid’s overtime winner against Calgary as an amazing moment, but the final minute before the Oilers clinched the Cup Final was his favourite.
Up until this year, I would have said the McDavid overtime winner that knocked out Calgary . . . But the last minute of that Dallas game, in Edmonton, for them to see it . . . It was just so exciting, and I mean, just the sound reverberating through your head, it literally hurts!
While McDavid’s game winner against Calgary was an iconic moment for the franchise, clinching the Stanley Cup Final in a one goal game on home ice was absolutely electric, and it was an incredible call from Michaels. His frantic energy conveyed the fans’ sense of nervousness and excitement, and the thrill of heading to the Cup Final. It was an incredible moment for Oilers fans, and Michaels called it perfectly.
Unfortunately Michaels hasn’t been selected to call Oilers playoff games on television yet in his career, but fans are still holding out hope to get their homer broadcaster in the big slot. Regardless, Oilers fans many reasons to believe they’ll be back in the Cup Final next year, woth the motivation to take care of unfinished business.
