Chris Braswell will play in the uniform of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the first time on Saturday night when the Bucs open their three-game preseason schedule against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The second-round draft pick from Alabama has his agenda in place for his pro debut.
“Just go out there, play hard, play physical and just make plays and, you know, play to my standard,” Braswell said on Tuesday.
Braswell is among the incoming crop of rookies expected to see their first action as NFL players this week, when two NFL preseason games will be played on Thursday, followed by three on Friday, nine on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Braswell is trying not to make too much of it.
“I’ve been playing football my whole life,” Braswell said, “so I’m looking forward to Saturday, my first NFL game, and just going out there and playing with the guys, so I just got to go out there and play football.”
Braswell joined Tampa Bay as the 57th selection in the NFL Draft on April 26. The Bucs used a second-round pick on Braswell even though they returned the starters at outside linebacker – Yaya Diaby and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.
Braswell is listed as Tryon-Shoyinka’s backup on Tampa Bay’s first depth chart of the preseason. But because Diaby and Tryon-Shoyinka have missed time at training camp because of injuries, Braswell has gotten to work with the first-team defense.
“I’m getting better and better every day with the play calls, the speed of the game and the physicality,” Braswell said. “Each and every day, I try to go out there and work something, like something little in my game. Before practice, I go out there with (outside-linebackers) coach George (Edwards), and we just go over some things as well.”
