NFL Insider: Jets Unlikely to Draft QB, Want to Trade No. 10 amid Zach Wilson Rumors

The New York Jets would “really like a trade proposal from a quarterback-needy team” for the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

The Jets would be interested in dealing the pick if offered a top-100 selection in compensation, Cimini reported.

The team currently holds the No. 10 and No. 72 picks in the upcoming draft after losing a second-round pick in the trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders, which are currently slated to select behind the Jets, could be interested in pursuing the No. 10 pick, Cimini reported.

These teams may need to believe they could use the pick to acquire a quarterback in order to give up draft capital to move into the top 10, however.

The top four quarterbacks in the draft, projected to be USC’s Caleb Williams, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, North Carolina’s Drake Maye and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, are unlikely to fall to No. 10, Cimini noted.

That means a fifth quarterback like Oregon’s Bo Nix may need to climb the draft rankings in order for a team to decide to make a deal with the Jets, Cimini reported.

Cimini’s report comes amid trade reports that the Jets are finding difficulty trading quarterback Zach Wilson.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas said at the annual league meeting last week that there was “nothing close to being done” with a Wilson trade.

Jets owner Woody Johnson then noted that there is still a chance the Jets could keep Wilson, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

“If we don’t trade him, we’re going to keep him,” Johnson said.

Wilson, the No. 2 pick of the 2021 draft, struggled to retake the first-string role following Rodgers’ season-ending injury in Week 1 of the 2023 campaign. He led the league with seven lost fumbles and was eventually benched for the second season in a row.
