On Wednesday, New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen sent a serious warning to a running back who suffered an injury during practice. The offensive weapon could be in danger of losing his spot on the 53-man roster in August in just his second season in the league.
Kendre Miller suffered a hamstring injury at practice
Per multiple reports, running back Kendre Miller left Wednesday’s practice with a hamstring injury. After a disappointing rookie campaign last season, Miller was looking to have a solid 2024 season. The Saints selected Miller in the third round of last year’s draft. He finished the season with just 156 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, and ten receptions for 117 yards.
Miller has a history of injury
Injuries kept Miller off the field last year. He appeared in eight games after dealing with knee, hamstring, and ankle sprain injuries throughout the preseason and regular season. Miller’s first injury in the league was his knee injury from August. That unfortunate trend is continuing at training camp this year.
Miller’s bad injury luck started in TCU’s win over Michigan in the CFP Playoff semifinal game. He suffered an MCL sprain that would keep him from playing in the National Championship game against Georgia.
The Saints are noticing Miller can’t stay on the field.
New Orleans Saints HC Dennis Allen sends Miller a warning
During his press conference with the media on Wednesday afternoon, Allen said Miller needed to figure out how to stay on the field.
“[Miller] that’s a player that’s going to have to figure out how to stay healthy because it’s hard to make the team from the training room,” Allen said via Katherine Terrell of ESPN.
Miller has the tools to be lethal in Allen’s offense. Unfortunately, his lower body injuries are keeping him from showing off his skills. Allen is clearly losing patience with Miller in his second year with New Orleans.
Would the Saints give up on a third-round pick after one season?
