Maya Jama has announced a surprising career move after hosting the Love Island final.
Maya, 29, has been rushed off her feet with a host of different work engagements over the past couple of months, including hosting the much-loved ITV dating titan. However, now things are set to change as she revealed her new job prospects.
Taking to her Instagram account, the presenter beamed as she told her 3.2million followers the good news. Revealing nothing but a repost from another account, she admitted that she was “so excited” to get started.
On her Instagram story, Maya shared a post from the play Shifters, an upcoming production set to make its way to the West End later this year. Here, it was revealed that Maya had joined the team of the play – not as an actor, but instead as a producer.
The post wrote: “Maya Jama joins the producing team of Shifters,” before including a quote on how thrilled she was to be a part of the team. “I’m so excited to be a part of bringing Benedict Lombe’s beautiful play, SHIFTERS, to the West End,” she exclaimed.
“I feel like I know these characters, I know their story, and it’s also really wonderful to be able to see yourself represented in art, that’s the most important part of it,” she added. Reposting the original post to her Instagram story, she yelled: “A must see. So excited for this to hit the West End,” following by a slew of excited and partying emojis.
A teaser for the play read: “With the clock counting down until Des has to leave again, memories of their teen years collide with their present and they’re forced to question if destiny has brought them back together for a reason. Shifters is a beautifully intoxicating and relatable reminder of the enduring power of memory and young love.”
She is set to join the production of the show, alongside acting legend Idris Elba and rapper Little Simz. This production will mark her debut into the acting and producing world – with the main cast set to feature a host on up-and-coming actors such as Tosin Cole and Heather Agyepong.
Following the announcement, several of Maya’s fans flooded the post with messages of love and support for the host. One fan beamed with positivity as they wrote: “Congrats lovely, can’t wait to watch it.”
A second user was awestruck at the news, penning: “This is so cool, Maya you legend!” Whilst a third said: “What can Maya Jama not do? The real superstar.”
It comes after Maya revealed that she and ex-boyfriend Stormzy were calling it quits on their relationship for a second time, despite wanting to give things another go. The pair released a joint statement in July that blindsided fans, as they admitted they “tried their best to make it work” before deciding to call time.
