During the NHL draft a few weeks ago, Berube made some comments on how he was looking forward to being able to coach a player like Marner. That led to many people to believe that Marner would no longer be at risk of being traded and that all major core players would be returning to Toronto next season.
Berube recently sat down with The Star’s Kevin McGran, and he re-confirmed the comments he made a few weeks ago, stating that yes Marner will be on the Leafs roster come training camp.
“(Marner is) a character guy,” Berube told McGran. “He’s a great person. Obviously, a great player. I’m looking forward to coaching him.”
As the season goes on, and should Marner still be a member of the Leafs, it will be interesting to see Berube’s coaching style, and whether players like Marner feel they enjoy it and want to be part of the Leafs long-term.
