Here’s just another example of why everyone needs a friend like Luann de Lesseps. She’ll sing to you. She’ll party with you, and if you get too drunk and make a mess of yourself on Watch What Happens Live, she’ll defend you. That’s what Countess Lu is doing for Sonja Morgan right now, and we absolutely love to see it.
The Real Housewives of New York duo recently appeared on the WWHL 15th anniversary special, and Sonja was being Sonja. She kept talking when she wasn’t being called on, and it was a little bit chaotic. Not everyone can handle that, but Luann thinks everyone should cut Sonja slack.
A little bit of mess never hurt anyone
After the WWHL 15th anniversary special aired, Sonja caught hell from all directions about her behavior. Jeff Lewis, who also appeared in the special, was particularly critical of Sonja. He said he felt “annoyed’ by her behavior and claimed that her antics were part of the reason why Welcome to Crappie Lake didn’t get renewed for a second season.
Obviously, Luann knows a thing or two about being overserved, so she told Page Six that people need to be a little more cool about her pal Sonja.
“Sonja’s very special. I adore her. But some people that don’t know her aren’t used to her antics. Let’s put it that way,” Luann said.
Lu admitted that Sonja had enjoyed some vodka before the WWHL taping, but what’s wrong with that? Sonja is an adult, and she’s going through a rough time with the recent sale of her townhome. Luann said that everyone needs to show her some empathy and let her be.
“She’s got a lot of stuff going on right now,” Luann noted. “And, you know, alcohol was invented for a reason — to help you through sh-t. She’s been going through a hard time.”
Ultimately, Luann did admit that Sonja was a little “messy” and “hard to wrangle” during the 15th anniversary special. However, she doesn’t think that it’s a bad thing, and it certainly wasn’t as big of a deal as Jeff tried to make it seem. Perhaps he could have used a drink that night to loosen up ab it.
“It was a little messy, but it was fun,” Luann proudly told the outlet.
