The Tampa Bay Lightning should not be done adding to their roster this offseason. When looking at their current group, there is no question that they could use one more proven winger in their middle six.

Due to the start of free agency being more than two weeks ago, most of the top players who hit the market have found new homes. While this is the case, the Lightning still have some solid options they could target. One player who stands out from the bunch is Daniel Sprong.

At this juncture, the Lightning currently have veteran winger Cam Atkinson projected as their second-line right-winger. While Atkinson could be a serviceable top-nine forward, it would not hurt to bring in a player like Sprong to have more competition. If signed, Sprong would better the Lightning’s middle six on either the second or third line.

With it being later in the offseason, the Lightning could also have the opportunity to sign Sprong to an affordable one-year, prove-it deal. The Lightning could also be a prime potential landing spot for him in this scenario, as he could thrive playing with the club’s top stars.

Sprong, 27, has quietly had back-to-back solid seasons as well. After posting 21 goals and 46 points in 66 games with the Seattle Kraken in 2022-23, he had 18 goals and 43 points in 76 games last season with the Detroit Red Wings. These numbers are more impressive when noting that he primarily had a bottom-six role with each club.

Ultimately, if Sprong remains available for much longer, the Lightning should consider making a real push for him. He would boost their depth at right wing and give them some much-needed secondary scoring.
