The Last of Us season 2 set photos reveal the first look at Ellie and Dina together in the HBO show. Based on the video game of the same name, HBO’s adaptation premiered to massive critical and commercial success in early 2023, chronicling Joel and Ellie’s journey across a post-apocalyptic United States. The Last of Us season 2, based on the sequel game, will bring back Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, and also introduce important new characters, such as Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Dina.

As season 2 continues filming in British Columbia, set photos have surfaced via @DomTheBombYT revealing the first look at Ellie together with her romantic interest, Dina.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, there are a total of four photos showing Ellie and Dina walking together through a foresty area. Though the characters look similar to their counterparts in The Last of Us Part II video game, there are also a few minor differences.

Everything Revealed By The Last Of Us Season 2 Set Photos

The set photos reveal the first look at Bella Ramsey’s return as Ellie, and one of the most important newcomers to The Last of Us season 2 cast – Isabela Merced as Dina. There are some notable similarities between the two characters in the set photos and their video game counterparts. For instance, Ellie is sporting the signature green jacket she wears throughout both games, while Dina is wearing her red shirt seen in Part II.

However, there are also several differences between the set photos and video games, particularly in the hairstyles. Ellie’s hair is only partially pulled back, a departure from her loose ponytail in season 1, which was already different from her shorter hair with bangs seen in the game. The Last of Us Part II is set five years after the first game and in the show, Ellie’s new hairstyle will likely help denote this passage of time. Dina’s hair is down and flowing in the set photos, a stark contrast from the game where it’s usually tied up in a bun.

Overall, the set photos introduce fresh looks for Ellie and Dina while retaining some important elements from the games. This is especially important for Ellie, who will be five years older in season 2. Regarding how this will affect her appearance, the show’s co-creator Craig Mazin said it will be reflected in “costume and makeup and hair, but more importantly, the soul and spirit of the actor.” While The Last of Us season 2 is adapting the second game, Mazin says some details will be “radically” different, some of which, based on the set photos, include Ellie and Dina’s appearances.
