Lala Kent opened up about her co-parenting relationship with Randall Emmett while appearing on a podcast on Friday.
As she also explained why she’s spent thousands dating and revealed how she landed her role on Vanderpump Rules, Lala, 33, who is expecting her second child after a sperm donation, admitted that when it comes to her dynamic with her ex-fiance, Randall, 53, things between them are still quite tense.
“I don’t enjoy it, I think because there’s such bad blood,” Lala said on the July 12 episode of the Why Won’t You Date Me? with Nicole Byer podcast. “Anytime I have to engage, it is like [a] pit in the stomach. If I could have somebody be the go-between forever, that would be great.”
Because Ocean is participating more in school and dance, there are times that Lala has to interact with Randall.
“When Ocean’s around, I put on a smile. We don’t sit next to each other or anything like that but I don’t ignore that person,” Lala revealed. “[But] when she is not in the mix and we have to go to parent-y time things, don’t look in my direction. I don’t know you; you don’t know me.”
“It is [such a mindf*ck] that you can sit there and have such wonderful, beautiful memories with someone and then something can happen and the mask kind of falls and you’re like, ‘Oh wow, there’s like a lot of stuff that you did that I’m not cool with and I actually kind of hate you and never want to see you again,’” she continued.
Due to her messy split from Randall in 2021, after which she accused him of cheating, Lala said dating has become “extremely hard.”
“I do a background check on everyone I date now,” she admitted. “Like, full worldwide background check. [And] I’m still single, so not many have like, passed the background check.”
After revealing she spends “a couple thousand bucks” on background checks, Lala revealed the wildest thing she ever learned about a potential partner.
“There was this guy who I was super into and he claimed that he owned his home and when the background check came back, there were no homes to be owned ever at all,” she shared. “And I’m like, ‘That’s so not a big deal, but it shows that you lie.’ I was like, ‘I don’t care if you rent or own.’ You randomly brought it up and you’re lying about it.”
As Lala remains single as she awaits the September birth of her second child, she said that her bar is getting “lower and lower.”
“At this point, you just need a valid driver’s license and car insurance. If you have both of those things, I’m like, ‘You know what? You’re really killing it,’” she stated. “If they don’t have a job, I have one of those. All good!”
When asked if she was okay being a sugar mama, Lala said she would be, as long as the person was upfront about it.
“If it was like, ‘You know, I just don’t dig working, I’m more of a creative and sometimes I just want to chill out,’ I’d be like, ‘Great. At least I know the drill.’ Transparency,” she reasoned.
Also, on the podcast, Lala shared the story of how she got on Pump Rules.
“I was in [SUR] and I was mingling because I was a social butterfly when I would drink and I also knew a lot of the people who worked there and Lisa Vanderpump just happened to be there one night and seen how I was maneuvering and it I guess for her seemed like, ‘Okay, this girl is a little chaotic and also an organic fit.’ And they reached out and said, ‘Are you looking for a job? we’re looking for a hostess?’ And with that hostessing job came, ‘Are you okay with us filming you?’ And now, here I am,” she declared.
She then said that after worrying that joining the series would ruin her acting career, her acting coach reminded her, “Honey, you don’t have a career. You come to acting class. When’s the last time you booked anything?’”
“She’s like, ‘Go. Do it,’” Lala recalled.
Vanderpump Rules season 12 is expected to begin filming sometime later this year.
