Kyle Richards reflected on her childhood and shared if her own daughters, Farrah Aldjufrie, 35, Alexia Umansky, 27, Sophia Umansky, 24, and Portia Umansky, 16, are like her and her sisters, Kathy Hilton and Kim Richards, while appearing on Kelly Ripa‘s podcast on Thursday.
In addition to offering an update on where she stands with Kathy, 65, sharing Mauricio Umansky‘s reaction to her comments about their separation on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and confirming whether they’re still sleeping together, Kyle, 55, opened up about how being in the public eye played a role in her split and admitted her mom, Kathleen Richards, made “some mistakes.”
“[My daughters] could not be more different than my sisters and me. And I think that’s a couple of things… My mom made some mistakes,” Kyle explained on the March 27 episode of Let’s Talk Off-Camera with Kelly Ripa. “I do remember her like saying, ‘Why don’t you do this like so and so?’ To Kim, ‘Why don’t you do what Kyle does?’ Things like that. I think she thought she was lighting a fire under [us.] My mom did also raise us like, ‘Any success Kathy has, or Kim has, or Kyle has is a feather in all of our caps.’ So I was never jealous of anything with my sisters. I was happy and proud always.”
She then added, “With my girls, they love each other so much. They get along so well. They’re all so different. They have so much respect for each other…”
As fans of RHOBH well know, Kyle and her sisters have butted heads on a number of occasions in recent years, both publicly and privately, with Kyle most recently suffering a temporary falling out with Kathy amid season 13. Luckily, however, after they feuded for months over Lisa Rinna‘s claims regarding Kathy’s alleged meltdown, they reconciled.
“We are in a very good place, and she has been very supportive,” Kyle revealed. “She left me a voicemail after watching the season finale and it was just gut-wrenching. She was hysterically crying and she just kept, you know, ‘I love you, I want to make sure you’re okay.’ She was so overly emotional but she has been very supportive.”
As for Mauricio’s reaction to season 13, Kyle said he was taken aback by her comments regarding their separation.
“He said to me, ‘I didn’t realize to the degree to where things were until I saw some of those scenes,’ and then he stopped watching cause it was hard for him to watch. Listen, he’s a great guy… he really is so I feel bad to say anything and he didn’t want to address any of this stuff. And I’m like, ‘What am I supposed to do? I signed up for this.’”
Although Kyle and Mauricio, 53, have continued to live with one another since separating last summer, Kyle confirmed to Kelly that they are no longer intimate and are residing in separate bedrooms.
“No that hasn’t happened. I mean, I’m somebody when my wall goes up, I’m not really,” she explained.
Kyle also suggested that living her life in front of the cameras had an impact on the breakup.
“Do I think we would be in this position if we weren’t in the public eye? I don’t… Too much going on in our lives. Too busy. Too many outside forces coming in. I just don’t,” she admitted.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 14 is expected to go into production sometime in April.
