Training camp injuries are never fun. Sometimes, they come with season-ending timetables. That’s truly the worst. For the New Orleans Saints, a couple of notable injuries popped up for them late in their second week of training camp.
Two especially notable players for their 2024 defense are dealing with new ailments, but their timetables for return do not sound particularly lasting. That’s a plus, at least.

Werner is not expected to miss a significant amount of time, but Dennis Allen said that they will know more on his status this week. They hope for the best, and Werner has had a good camp so far, alongside Demario Davis and Willie Gay Jr. at linebacker.
Payton Turner & Nathan Shepherd dealing with toe injuries
Turner’s ailment is believed to be the same one that held him out of games last season. The severity is unknown. We should get more updates on both of their status this week.
Obviously, both of them missing time would heavily impact the defensive line depth in New Orleans.
Jake Haener to have treatment for rare skin cancer on Monday
“I feel like I’m pretty young and healthy to be able to have something like that pop up… But I want to take care of it and be responsible about it, obviously not make it a distraction because I’m going to be fine, everything’s going to be taken care of.”
— Haener
The Saints QB noted that it is not a life-threatening situation right now, but he does want to be smart with his treatment of it. Monday us an important step forward on his path to a return to football. He practiced on Sunday.
