During her time as a full-time cast member on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Kathy Wakile and her cousin, Joe Gorga, and her cousin-in-law, Melissa Gorga, had a very close relationship.
After Kathy’s last appearance on the show, which was when she was in a friend role on Season 7, her friendships with Joe and Melissa soured.
Fast-forward to 2024, and Melissa revealed on an episode of Jeff Lewis Live that she would be open to reconciling with Kathy and her husband, Rich Wakile. As Melissa said, Rich and Kathy had “just bought the lot across the street” from her new house. Now, Kathy is revealing whether she would be interested in repairing her friendship with Melissa.
While making a surprise appearance on the July 14 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Kathy responded to Melissa’s comments.
First, she reacted to Melissa discussing her move.
“Yeah, Melissa Way, because apparently she owns the street,” Kathy said in response to Melissa’s sentiment that “everyone moves to [her] street.
The move, according to Kathy, wasn’t a strategic one.
“I’ve had my eye on that house forever,” she shared about her new property.
“She said she wants to get back together, what do you think about that?” guest Jennifer Aydin asked her, referring to when Melissa said that she “secretly hope[s]” that one day, she and Joe will run into Kathy and Rich on the street.
“It’s very convenient,” Kathy said. As host Andy Cohen pointed out, it would be “better” for the former castmates to be “friendly neighbors.”
Kathy minorly disagreed with Andy, as she noted that the houses may be on the same street, but they’re not exactly close to each other.
“Not to be boastful, but each property is at least an acre to two acres,” she explained. “You know, so you really don’t see each other.”
Why are Melissa Gorga and Kathy Wakile no longer friends?
Though Melissa and Kathy were on good terms when the latter Jersey girl left RHONJ, things soon changed.
Back in 2021, Kathy opened up about her relationship with Melissa during Life After Bravo.
She shared that she “doesn’t have a relationship” with Melissa or her cousins Joe and Teresa Giudice. She then hinted at what went wrong.
“You try to do the best you can in a relationship, and that happens in real life,” she said. “That happens without reality TV taking a part in it.”
“A funny thing happens with reality TV — it’s a small blurb, it’s a small part in your life, and you live your life, and whatever gets aired, it gets aired, and you’re still living your life,” Kathy added. “But for certain people — people live in that bubble — and they don’t realize that there is a whole world outside of the bubble.”
