There is no question that Marvin Harrison Jr. is the top new player everyone is coming to see at Arizona Cardinals training camp.
Fans are hoping the No. 4 overall pick can be the key piece that helps turn the Cardinals around after their 4-13 finish in the 2023-24 season. Additionally, they can’t wait to see how a healthy Kyler Murray looks with a dominant weapon like Harrison by his side.

Following Day 4 of training camp Sunday, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort talked about why the team drafted the Ohio State product and how Harrison has looked so far in a Cardinals uniform.
“I think it sounds really simple, but for a wide receiver, it really gets down to basics. He’s able to get open, and he catches the ball,” Ossenfort said. “Marvin’s been productive at a high level the last two years. For a guy his size, he’s a good route runner, he’s got good ball skills, he can run, he’s good after the catch, and so he checks a lot of boxes. And then the Marvin, the person, checks a lot as well.
“(We’re) excited. He’s off to a good start here. Excited to keep him in that wide receiver room. I think we got a good group there, exciting group of young guys, older guys. So excited to add him into that group.”
Even as a rookie, Harrison is expected to immediately be the Cardinals’ No. 1 wide receiver. Harrison, most recently-signed veteran Zay Jones, second-year wideout Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch and Zach Pascal highlight the receiving corps around Murray. The Cardinals also added one other receiver in the draft in UAB product Tejhaun Palmer, who was selected 191st overall.
Coach Jonathan Gannon discussed what has impressed him most about Harrison.
“His consistency in what he’s doing (and) his ball skills and route-running, that’s what I would say has shown up,” Gannon said. “The things that (wide receiver coach) Drew (Terrell) and (pass game specialist Spencer Whipple) and (assistant) Blaine (Gautier) and (assistant) Connor (Senger) are on him (about), each guy’s helping them in their own way. You see it showing up a little bit, so I like where he’s at right now.”
Another wide receiver who has stood out so far during camp is Jones, who was signed in May and is going into his eighth NFL season after spending the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“When we signed him, when you watch the tape, he’s a good player. That was a great add by us,” Gannon said. “His mentality of what he’s looking for right now, the way he wants to compete, help the offense and help the team win. It matched up with my vision of that spot too. He’s competing for a role, just like everybody, but he’s a guy that I talk a lot of ball with.”
Fans will get a real taste of what this new-look receiving room can bring to the table in the next few weeks, as the Cardinals begin practicing with pads on tomorrow.
