Hunter Schafer revealed her relationship with “Euphoria” co-star Dominic Fike ended, in part, because of infidelity.
During Wednesday’s episode of the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” the 25-year-old claimed she found out the “3 Nights” singer was cheating on her while going through his phone.
“Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time,” Schafer recalled.
The actress told host Alex Cooper she had “a gut” feeling and went through Fike’s phone, which she is admittedly “not proud of.”
The “Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” star said the experience “fundamentally changed [her] as a person.”
“It was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you,” she explained. “It has everything to do with that person and whatever kind of pain they are in and whatever they are dealing with.”
Despite logically knowing it wasn’t her fault, the actress said it was “so hard” coming to terms with the situation.
The co-stars were first linked in January 2022 and Schafer explained that it was her first monogamous relationship.
On top of that, Fike was the first cis, straight-identifying man she’d ever dated and she was the first trans woman the musician had ever been with — another reason his alleged infidelity cut so deep.
Schafer convinced herself that it was all her fault and blamed her gender identity as the reason he allegedly stepped out on their relationship.
“Because of the way I’ve been socialized as a trans woman, it’s been this crux in my life of what life has been so hard sometimes, I was like, ‘Oh, God, is this it?’”
Despite the difficult end to their relationship, Schafer insisted she and the indie rocker are still on good terms.
“It was a mutually agreed upon thing,” she said of their split. “It was one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had.”
“We both recognized that ‘This is not working and we can’t do this. We gotta go our own separate ways,’” she continued. “It was so, so hard because we really loved each other. He is a really special person and I love his soul.”
Despite having “a lot to work on” as individuals, Schafer was proud that Fike was the first person she publicly dated.
“He saw me exactly as who I was, which was amazing,” she said.
Reps for Fike had no comment.
The “Babydoll” singer confirmed his split from the “Cuckoo” star in July 2023 during an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe.
While Fike didn’t reveal why the pair split, he said he was single and “done being in relationships” as he worked on his co-dependency issues.
