The Houston Texans made another signing during training camp that could really boost their depth during the season.
We saw last season, that the Texans struggled mightily in the run game. It was easily their biggest weakness on the offensive side of the ball. Dameon Pierce wasn’t himself, and Devin Singletary had a few big games here and there.
So, they traded for Joe Mixon, have drafted and signed some rookies at the position, and have now signed Cam Akers. The fan base is pretty excited about the signing of Akers, given what his potential was when he came into the league.
While no one expects him to be elite, he can be a huge part of the team in 2024, if all goes well. The former Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings running back has had some pretty bad injuries in his career, which is one of the things that have held him back. But, with him being healthy, it didn’t take the Texans long to see some good in him and like him enough to sign him.
But, with that signing, the Texans had to make another corresponding move because of having too many players on the roster. As of right now, during training camp, they can have up to 90 players on their roster, but sometime before Week 1 of the regular season, they have to cut that down to 53 and have a 16-man practice squad.
