Hannah Berner explained what led to her being fired from Summer House while appearing on a podcast on Wednesday.
Just after the release of her Netflix special, Hannah Berner: We Ride at Dawn, on which Paige DeSorbo, 31, was named in the credits, Hannah, 32, spoke out about her Bravo exit and addressed her feud with former co-stars Kyle Cooke, 41, and Amanda Batula, 32.
“I think getting fired from Summer House made me feel like — it made me want to get a Netflix special. I wouldn’t have gotten a Netflix special if I didn’t get fired,” Hannah admitted on the July 10 episode of the BFFs Pod with Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards, and Bri Chickenfry.
Although there have been rumors that Hannah was fired from Summer House for sponsoring a rival seltzer brand amid the release of Kyle and Amanda’s Loverboy, Hannah clarified that a feud began at that point.
“Beef started because I did an ad for Truly Seltzer and I didn’t know that I like, wasn’t allowed to,” she explained, noting that Bravo didn’t fire her for it, but also stating that people on the cast “got annoyed.”
According to Hannah, she promoted Kyle and Amanda’s hard seltzer company and drank it on the show. And she wasn’t aware that working with Truly would be an issue.
“I just didn’t know that I wasn’t allowed to drink other drinks,” she revealed.
Continuing on, Hannah said that certain cast members had egos.
“It’s like, ‘It’s my show. It’s my drink.’ And, ‘You can’t do that.’ And there’s no rules and it just becomes fighting over egos and screentime and it’s not that fun,” she shared.
Hannah then said that she was axed from the show after being ousted by her castmates.
“It was just, like, layers and layers of just honestly, it was down to egos of, like, people didn’t f*ck with me anymore. It was, like, kind of embarrassing. And people were basically like, ‘We don’t want you to be our friend,’” she revealed. “And I was on a talk show at the time. I was on Summer House and I got fired.”
In that moment, Hannah said that she “[had] nothing,” but found herself motivated to pursue her comedic dreams.
“I do think revenge and pissing people off is definitely a huge motivator in my life and I highly recommend it. If you’re feeling pissed at someone, just, like, focus on yourself,” she stated.
In other Hannah Berner news, the former reality star turned comedian has given Paige a number of credits for her Netflix special, which was released on Tuesday.
As seen in a screenshot taken from IMDb, Paige is listed as a “key makeup artist,” part of the “special effects crew,” and as the “wardrobe supervisor.”
Hannah Berner was featured in a full-time role on Summer House seasons three through five.
