Former Washington Commanders cornerback Christian Holmes didn’t have to wait long to find a home. Holmes doesn’t have to move far either, as the New York Giants claimed the 2022 seventh-round draft pick off waivers.
Washington released Holmes on Monday to make room for defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth. Primarily a special teams player, the 26-year-old Holmes appeared in 30 games for the Commanders over the previous two seasons, starting two games.
Holmes played in all 17 games in 2022, making two starts. He appeared in 13 games last season. Holmes has 20 tackles and one pass defended in his career.
Washington liked Holmes, but the Commanders have other players like Holmes who can also contribute on special teams, but also play a more significant role on defense.
To make room for Holmes, the Giants waived injured running back Jashaun Corbin.
