Bachelorette alums Trista Sutter and Bob Guiney spoke out with some very blunt reactions to The Golden Bachelor stars Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s recent divorce announcement. After Gerry and Theresa’s whirlwind romance that was featured in The Golden Bachelor season 1, the couple got married on live TV in January 2024. Ever since, they have expressed a desire to find a city in the United States they could move to and settle down together. Unfortunately, after three months, reports emerged that they were still living in separate states, which preceded Gerry and Theresa’s stunning breakup announcement.
Trista Sutter thought Gerry and Theresa’s quick wedding meant they knew they were ready for marriage, but ” hindsight’s 20/20 .”
After finding out about Gerry and Theresa’s shocking split, Trista and Bob, who both appeared in The Bachelorette season 1, took to the Almost Famous Podcast to give their unfiltered opinions on the unfortunate development. Trista was excited by Gerry and Theresa’s relationship and didn’t seem to mind their quick wedding at first because “if they know, they know.” However, she’s now looking at this through a “hindsight’s 20/20” lense and realizing the Golden Bachelor season 1 couple should have “taken a beat and lived in the same home for a while” before deciding to get married.
Bob Guiney Questions Gerry & Theresa’s Divorce Explanation
Bachelor Alum Calls Gerry & Theresa’s Relationship “Fundamentally Flawed”
Bob, who was eliminated during The Bachelorette season 1 when Trista was the lead, was also very straightforward, even going as far as to call Gerry and Theresa’s relationship “fundamentally flawed.” He lashed out at the Golden Bachelor couple for allowing ABC to “spend a couple million bucks on your wedding and televise it for the world to see to then just allow it to crash and burn so quickly.” Bob recognized that Gerry and Theresa didn’t need to live “the life of a married couple” since they were still in separate states and were trying to figure out their living situation.
However, Bob provided some advice, saying that Gerry and Theresa needed to step back, assess their arrangement and “try to salvage this whole thing.” He questioned whether Gerry and Theresa utilized every tool at their disposal to try to make the relationship work. “You don’t make that step without exhausting everything that you can exhaust if you truly love that person,” he explained. Bob also found the Golden Bachelor couple’s divorce explanation really confusing, saying, “I have a hard time accepting the fact that they weren’t going to live together is why they’re getting divorced.”
Both Trista and Bob questioned Gerry and Theresa’s explanations about their living situation, saying that the Golden Bachelor season 1 couple needed to be on the same page regarding these very important issues before getting married so that once the wedding was over, they wouldn’t have to deal with a lot of these logistics that eventually harmed their relationship. That also goes back to Trista’s comment that Gerry and Theresa got married too fast and, instead, should have spent time as an engaged couple figuring everything out so that they wouldn’t end up divorcing. Maybe The Golden Bachelorette will have a better outcome.
