The New York Rangers announced a signing on Friday. They agreed on a one-year two-way deal worth $750,000 with former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Chad Ruhwedel.
Ruhwedel spent eight seasons with the Penguins organization, skating in 326 games from 2016 to 2024 and winning the Stanley Cup in 2017.
He played in Pittsburgh as recently as the 2023-24 season before being dealt to the Rangers on March 8 in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2027.
Before moving to Broadway, he had a goal and four points, but he didn’t find the scoresheet in five regular-season games he played with New York. Despite the Rangers advancing to the Eastern Conference Final, Ruhwedel did not dress in the playoffs.
In 364 NHL games, split between the Buffalo Sabres, Penguins, and Rangers, the 34-year-old has 13 goals, 46 assists, and 49 points.
