Former Golden Knight Elects To Remain In Europe

Former Vegas Golden Knights winger, Tomas Jurco will remain in Europe despite garnering interest from NHL teams.

The 31-year-old played just eight games with the Golden Knights during the 2020-21 season before making the move to the KHL. He also spent time with the Henderson Silver Knights recording four goals and 11 points in 22 games of AHL action.

Jurco has played in the KHL since 2021 except for a 17-game stretch last season in the NL with HC Davos, Switzerland’s top professional league. His last game with the team was the final of the Spengler Cup on December 31, in which Davos defeated Czech club Dynamo Pardubice 5-3. However, that was overshadowed by an incident in the first period of that game in which Jurco was physically accosted on the bench by Davos coach Josh Holden; an incident caught on live television.

Jurco played with KHL team, Avangard Omsk in the 2023-24 season but will be returning to Kunlun Red Star, a Chinese-based club he played for during the 2022-23 season.

The 6’2 Slovakian has played in the NHL, AHL, QMJHL, KHL, NL and the Slovak Extraliga youth leagues while representing Slovakia at the World Juniors, World Championship, and the Olympics. He’s won an Olympic bronze medal, a Memorial Cup, two Calder Cups and two QMJHL championships.

Racking up 221 games of NHL experience between the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers and the Golden Knights, the veteran winger will likely play the rest of his hockey career in Europe.
