The Philadelphia Flyers have had a consistent brand of hockey for over 50 years now—tough, fearless, and—of course—gritty.
The hard-hitting style geared towards agitating opponents was on display during the 2023-24 season, as the Flyers were named the best fighting team in the NHL.
The Flyers were ranked at the top of the best fighting teams, emerging victorious in 22 out of 23 bouts for a win rate of 96%.
Nic Deslauriers, one of the team’s notoriously toughest players, was also noted as being the only player in the entire league to win every single fight he participated in.
Fans won’t soon forget Deslauriers scrapping with the New York Rangers’ Matt Rempe, a fight that was automatically dubbed “the fight of the season,” being universally lauded for its big blows and old-school feel.
Another memorable altercation came in the beginning of the season when Garnet Hathaway got into his first fight as a Flyer, immediately endearing himself to his new fanbase.
Even players who don’t often throw punches were getting in on the fun—for example, Joel Farabee stepping in to defend teammate Cam York after a nasty hit from the Calgary Flames’ Elias Lindholm.
Rest assured, Flyers fans, that the Broad Street Bullies spirit is still alive and well in this team.
