Collins has stated that her 2011 rare cancer diagnosis for a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) saw her return to painting as a form of therapy. This allowed her to shut out the world and be at one with the canvas. In July 2023, she reported that she was cancer-free.

During the seventh season of Fear the Walking Dead, Collins would say goodbye to her character, Sarah. Little did fans know that Sarah, Wendell (Daryl Mitchell), and others would be given off-screen deaths after being a significant part of the story for several seasons. The series ended its eight-season run in 2023.

Since her days on Fear TWD, Collins has appeared in many other series. She has done voice work in PAW Patrol, Drone, Puppy Dog Pals, and Spidey and His Amazing Friends.
