As of the time of writing, Kwame and Chelsea’s wedding had not fully aired; only Chelsea’s enthusiastic yes left viewers hanging at the end of the show. Even then, fans were 100 percent sure that Kwame did not want to marry Chelsea, even if he eventually says yes to her at the altar on Love is Blind.
The only question that remains is whether it’s the couples themselves, one individual, or the production crew that is attempting to manufacture a relationship out of what fans say is nearly nothing. With their penchant for having contestants sign away their rights and agree to heavy editing, anything is possible, say fans.
Fans Do Not Ship Love Is Blind’s Kwame And Chelsea
Plenty of Love is Blind enthusiasts haven’t shipped Kwame and Chelsea from the moment he proposed simply because Chelsea seemed to be his second choice. Kwame was hooked on Micah, even crying when she chose Paul over him in the pods. Kwame came back strong to propose to Chelsea.
During the couples’ engagement trip to Mexico, a few flirty conversations between Kwame and Micah got the former in trouble with his fiancée. Still, Kwame said he was dedicated to Chelsea and making their relationship work—all the way to the altar.
Apart from Kwame’s reservations about the relationship, including his preferences for where the location-diverse couple should live, there were other red flags that fans say they spotted quite early on.
Those waiting for the weddings to air could only hope that Kwame would say no to Chelsea, ending things once and for all. They would especially prefer that ending to an SK and Raven-esque shocker, too.
Viewers Think Chelsea Is “Scary” On Camera
Tons of viewers flocked to various channels to discuss why Chelsea and Kwame will never work, or at least, shouldn’t work. They suggest that there are two factors at play—one being that Chelsea is obvious to Kwame’s actual feelings, and the other being that Kwame clearly shows his feelings (and isn’t into her).
One Reddit thread centered on Chelsea’s behavior toward Kwame, calling her “cold and defensive” when Kwame tried to talk to her about some of their relationship hurdles (like that location issue).
By this point, Chelsea has already established that she thinks Kwame, whose job is remote, should relocate to be with her after they get married. Kwame seemed to be approaching the issue gently and with an open mind but, viewers say, Chelsea isn’t paying any attention.
One viewer wrote that, “she talks about their relationship like they’re in some magical fairytale in that soft voice with that intense stare,” which essentially gave fans ick vibes.
Others called Chelsea “scary and gross” for not reading Kwame’s body language, such as when he didn’t seem to want any more strawberries fed to him (and voiced his feelings) but she persisted.
Another fan noted that the couple simply doesn’t mesh, and that Chelsea is “10/10 in her own world and thinks they’re being playful, not picking up on his discomfort and anger at all.” She’s so oblivious, fans suggest, that she doesn’t realize Kwame isn’t even into her.
Does Kwame Really Like Chelsea?
Kwame chose Chelsea, so there are clearly things he likes about her. But viewers are of the opinion that once he met Chelsea in person (or perhaps after he met Micah), Kwame decided he wasn’t so keen on spending the rest of his life with her.
One fan’s read on the situation had others feeling bad for Chelsea, because, they note, she “isn’t getting what she wants from him, validation, affection, genuine attention because she knows his heart is in a different place so she’s overcompensating.”
YouTuber TammyTalks recapped Season 4’s Episode 11 with the blunt sum-up “Chelsea… he doesn’t want you.” Commenters agreed with Tammy’s perspective on the situation, saying “I can’t believe Chelsea doesn’t see that Kwame isn’t all in with her.”
Another guessed that Chelsea is in love with the idea of getting married, versus being in love with Kwame for who he is. What’s worse, they suggest, is that Kwame’s body language and comments about Chelsea suggest that he isn’t fully invested and that the situation can only end in heartbreak—whether that’s at the altar or some months or years later (which could be the case due to the cast’s NDAs).
Is Kwame On Love Is Blind For The Publicity?
Other commenters speculated that Kwame is on the show “for the publicity ride” and knows that sticking with Chelsea will keep him in the public eye for longer. There’s also the fact that Kwame previously appeared on a dating show trying to find a wife, but clearly didn’t.
Kwame appeared on season 10 of Married at First Sight, and an eagle-eyed viewer who recognized him from Love is Blind shared his seconds-long appearance in the background of an episode. Kwame was, of course, not one-half of a couple that actually got married at first sight, so he didn’t continue to be followed for the experiment.
Knowing that tidbit of information, Love is Blind fans swear he’s only looking for publicity. They also think Netflix’s production and casting team is on it because, they say, it’s the same crew as Married at First Sight.
Of course, only the wedding episode’s conclusion (and perhaps the subsequent reunion) will confirm whether Kwame said yes to Chelsea, and only time will tell whether he’s authentic about whatever feelings he claims to have for her.
