Uma announced she was leaving the moment Wil was dumped from the villa
It’s safe to say that Love Island has delivered the drama this summer.
Love Island 2024 has given us some truly gag-worthy moments that have left us shocked and stunned; from TOWIE’s Joey Essex entering the villa as the first bombshell on day one, to Ayo Odukoya leaving Mimii Ngulube single at the Casa Amor recoupling, to the most recent shocker – Uma Jammeh opting to leave on her own accord when boyfriend Wil Anderson was dumped from the villa.

The couple had only just managed to get the relationship back on track following Wil’s mad moves with Lucy Graybill in Casa Amor, so Uma’s sacrifice sent shockwaves across the fandom.
Naturally, when heatworld was sat face-to-face with the Love Island queen herself days after her shock exit, our first question had to be, well, WHY?
Of course, we weren’t that blunt about it, after all, Wil was sat right next to her, so we gently asked her why she chose to leave the show so suddenly. Why not sleep on it?

Uma exclusively told us, “For me, when I left, I didn’t want to sleep on it. I knew that sleeping on it would’ve just made feel even more like ‘I wish I’d left yesterday’. I think I wanted to leave in the moment. I knew what I came in for and I had found that. Wil and I had had quite a few conversations about us moving forward from it.”
While Wil’s dumping was definitely the primary reason for her surprise exit, Uma went on to explain that she also left because she had to “stay true to herself” and that carrying on with her Love Island journey sans Wil is just not what she’s about.

Uma continued, “Everyone in life makes mistakes and it’s important to forgive people, and it’s also very important to stay true to yourself. I think if I’d have stayed in there until the end that would be not who I am and disingenuous. So I didn’t even need to sleep on it; sleeping on it would’ve just been a waste of everyone’s time and also a waste of all the girls’ effort because they would’ve been comforting me all night.”
As if those girls would’ve given that a second thought, queen. They love you and so do we.
Wil and Uma left the Love Island villa hand-in-hand on day 37 when Wil was left single and dumped after new bombshell Reuben Collins chose to couple up with Uma (following Wil’s indiscretions in Casa). Upon learning the news, Uma decided to walk and leave with him.
