Evan’s NHL Daily: Changes At Sportsnet, Laine Trade Ask Revealed

There probably isn’t a more popular NHL podcast than 32 Thoughts, hosted by Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman. We never really got a free agency or draft recap show other than a quick podcast that Friedman did himself. I guess we know why now, as there appear to be some big changes at Sportsnet.

Patrik Laine is still in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and no one can talk to him while that’s the case, but it was revealed what the Blue Jackets might be asking for in a trade for him. The problem is that there’s only a few teams that could make a deal like that.

Colorado Hockey Now

Expectations are low for Colorado’s goaltenders at the moment. That’s why next year is a big chance for Justus Annunen and Alexandar Georgiev to prove some people wrong.

News And Rumors

Daily Hive: The details are a bit murky, but the nearly 15 year run for Jeff Marek at Sportsnet appears to have come to an end. The company confirmed that Marek is no longer with them on Thursday. The TV and podcast host hasn’t been active on social media since the NHL Draft.

I really have no clue what went on and don’t care to speculate, but it does stink. Marek is one of the best in the business at what he does and I’m sure he’ll end up somewhere else, but if 32 Thoughts is to continue, it won’t be the same.

The Athletic: According to the great Aaron Portzline, the Blue Jackets have changed their minds on what they’re looking for in a trade for Patrik Laine.

Picks and prospects is fine, but with the salary cap, there’s only a few NHL teams that can take that on without sending a roster player the other way. I have to imagine Carolina is one that might be taking a long look, although they have a few of their own players to re-sign.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Taken by Colorado’s new head scout, Pittsburgh finally signed their top prospect Brayden Yager.

Philly Hockey Now: Maybe he got paid a little too much, but Philadelphia had to keep their best forward around. Eight more years of Travis Konecny.
