Eminem is not afraid (He’s not afraid), to take a stand (To take a stand), although now, he might not have to. To explain, Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon are trying to trademark the name “Reasonably Shady” for their podcast. But anyone (me) who grew up on Eminem can quickly chime in, letting you know that this name’s already taken. Yet, these Real Housewives of Potomac stars are moving forward, although Eminem’s latest win might soon have them changing courses.
In the matter of Eminem vs Real Housewives
Eminem owns the trademarks for Slim Shady, Shady, and Shady Limited. Anything even remotely, or dare I say it, “Reasonably” Shady, might come across as if Eminem had blessed it. Cue this Shady lawsuit.
Robyn and Gizelle disagreed. In turn, they asked the United States Patent and Trademark Office to force Eminem to sit for a deposition. On this, Eminem said nope. Instead, he wanted to send in his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg.
According to his team, Paul has a “far better understanding of the documents, marketing, and advertising than” Eminem. So he alone should be tasked with speaking on this matter.
Gizelle and Robyn disagreed, again. They argued that Eminem should appear since they both had to. “An assertion of Mr. Mathers being too busy will not be enough to avoid having to sit for a deposition. As [Robyn and Gizelle], both celebrities in their own right, have provided the courtesy of sitting for deposition for [Eminem], it is not overly burdensome for [Eminem] to extend the same courtesy for his obligation,” their lawyers argued.
Ladies. You are not in the same category as Eminem. But okay. Pop off.
Luckily for Eminem, In Touch reported that The United States Patent and Trademark Office Board agrees. They ruled to depose Eminem’s manager only. Because Gizelle and Robyn failed to “demonstrate that” Eminem’s “deposition” is needed, “particularly given Mr. Rosenberg, not [Eminem], provided the declaration supporting the motion.”
Gizelle and Robyn now have 30 days to “notice, take, and complete” Paul’s deposition. Cue me, hoping for a remix of The Real Slim Shady.
