Dr. Terry Dubrow weighed in on the recent attempt on Donald Trump’s life, from a surgeon’s point of view.
The Botched star speculated on what kind of surgery he might need to repair the damage to his right ear. It could be a lot more complex than most people realize due to the delicate structure and limited blood flow in the ear.
Depending on how much of the ear was “blown off” by the high-velocity bullet’s impact, Trump might need “missing parts” surgery.
A complex surgery
Dr. Terry explained that reconstructive surgery on the ear is very complex. The ear’s limited blood supply increases the chance of infection. Trump also might require a skin graft using tissue harvested from elsewhere on his body.
“Depending on how much of the tissue was removed will determine how much surgery he needs,” Terry told TMZ. “For example, if you lose a lot of skin and a lot of the cartilage, he may actually need [a piece of] rib to reconstruct it … and it can take multiple stages.”
Terry added that if DJT undergoes surgery to repair his ear, he could be in the hospital for a while. Due to the ear’s low blood supply, he could be on intravenous antibiotics for a long time.
Obviously, the timing isn’t convenient for a long hospital stay since Trump’s on the campaign trail. The 2024 Presidential contest has also heated up in the past week since President Joe Biden stepped aside in favor of his Veep, Kamala Harris.
Terry did admit that he’s not involved in Trump’s care and doesn’t know whether he actually needs surgery or not. In fact, Trump’s physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, said that a bullet pierced the upper part of his ear, with the flesh and cartilage getting torn clean off. He thinks the ear will heal on its own and no surgery should be required.
Choose your surgeon wisely
Should DJT need surgery, Terry advises him to choose a qualified surgeon. He volunteered himself for the job, as reconstructive surgery is his specialty.
The Real Housewives of Orange County spouse emphasized how lucky the former president is to be alive. Had he not turned his head when he did, he probably wouldn’t be here. Luckily, the shot only nicked his ear.
At the end of the day, should he decide he wants his ear repaired, Terry’s standing back and standing by.
