‘Don’t understand the logic…’ Mina Kimes points out Jerry Jones’ hypocrisy behind his ‘all in’ comment as Dak Prescott struggles to get a big contract extension

There are clear indications of Jerry Jones saying one thing and doing another. Before the free agency hit on March 13, the veteran Dallas Cowboys owner announced they would be ‘all-in’ to give Dak Prescott the support he desired on the field.

There’s no question that the Cowboys have been able to benefit from not spending big on a quarterback. Take, for instance, Dak Prescott, who was taken in the fourth round even after they passed him on in the second. His predecessor, Tony Romo, was an undrafted free agent.

'Don’t understand the logic…' Mina Kimes points out Jerry Jones’ hypocrisy behind his ‘all in’ comment as Dak Prescott struggles to get a big contract extension

Although neither of them was good enough to win a Super Bowl, they kept the Dallas Cowboys competitive for more than two decades of football. Now that the time is fast approaching, Jones would have to either pay his three-time Pro Bowl quarterback or let him walk. The consensus is that he will choose later.

During the recent episode of RG3 and the Ones with Robert Griffin III, ESPN analyst Mina Kimes argued the Cowboys’ contradictory nature makes little sense. She cited the example of Kirk Cousins getting a $180 million contract despite being injured.

We just saw Kirk Cousins, who is turning 36 years old this year and coming off a torn Achilles, get four years and $180 million for the Atlanta Falcons. You don’t think Dak Prescott, who was a top-three quarterback [by] just about every metric last year, isn’t going to get significantly more in free agency? Mina Kimes said.
Mina Kimes questioned Jerry Jones’ approach to Dak Prescott’s contract extension
The 30-year-old’s biggest drawback is his inability to win in the postseason. Since 2016, Prescott has played seven games in the postseason, winning only twice. Last season, the Cowboys lost at home against the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round.

Several Cowboys fans would love to see a new face in the quarterback spot, but more importantly, they want to play in the Super Bowl.

There are people at home screaming, ‘Do it in the playoffs,’ and I understand. But my question for them is: What then? Who’s going to play quarterback? Mina Kimes questioned.
The Cowboys have Trey Lance, whom they acquired last season, but he is not ready to be the starter just yet. So the options are to either trade a QB, which is unlikely because there aren’t a lot of them better than Prescott, or draft one.

However, they don’t have the high pick to select a generational player. Yet Jones is ready to see out Prescott’s contract, which ends in 2025, but he isn’t showing any signs of helping him add quality replacements.

You’re saying, ‘Dak Prescott, we’re all in; this is it; he needs to prove himself.’ But we’re going to make it harder for him. Mina Kimes added.
In Nick Wright’s words, let Prescott’s contract end. He will enter free agency, but who will be willing to pay him close to $60 million? So the Cowboys can probably give him a one-year ‘prove it’ deal to win the Super Bowl.
