The New Orleans Saints need players to step up in 2024. Young talent must emerge for one of the oldest rosters in football.
Particularly, wide receiver depth is a spot where youthful guys need to play a bigger role. Michael Thomas is no longer in the picture, and the depth behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed is up for grabs. Training camp and the preseason will be vital for those receivers.
A.T. Perry was a solid contributor in 2023 as a rookie. Apparently, he needs to emerge again before the season begins, according to Dennis Allen.
Saints waiting on A.T. Perry to step up
“Plenty talented enough to be on this team and make plays for us, but we need to see it more often out at practice.” — Allen on Perry
DA said that AT Perry has been “fine” but they’re waiting on him to step up and make some plays. Noted some other guys have made those plays. “Plenty talented enough to be on this team and make plays for us, but we need to see it more often out at practice.”

It’s a bit of a challenge sent to the young wideout from the Saints head coach. His mentioning of other guys making plays is the most notable part of his comment, probably. That may mean that other players are moving ahead of Perry on the depth chart.
Perry is currently battling with undrafted free agent Mason Tipton, rookie Bub Means, and a couple of veterans in Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Stanley Morgan Jr. for a role on the offense.
Tipton has been extremely impressive during practice, but New Orleans needs other guys to step up.
Perry is in that group, so we will see if he starts to make more plays before the preseason. If he does not, he will have immense pressure on him to produce during those exhibition matchups to lock down a roster spot.
Perry totaled 246 yards and four touchdowns on twelve receptions last year. He played in ten games as a rookie. Hopefully, he will have an even larger role as an NFL sophomore.
