My Adventures With Superman gets an exciting new update as Superboy will be joining the cast for season 3, hopefully giving him the kind of story that his latest appearance in Titans couldn’t. The DC hero was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 with Screen Rant in attendance and was the first bit of information revealed for My Adventures With Superman season 3. Following the addition of Supergirl in season 2, adding another member of the Superman family seems like the next logical step for My Adventures With Superman.
Now that Lex Luthor seems primed to be a major antagonist in My Adventures With Superman season 3, bringing in Superboy makes sense as he is the genetic clone of Superman and Luthor. Different versions of Superboy have had appearances in various movies and TV shows over the years, with Titans offering the most recent appearance of the character in live-action, as Joshua Orpin’s Conner became like Lex Luthor. With My Adventures With Superman having a wildly different tone than Superboy’s last adaptation, the series is now positioned to give him the treatment Titans never could.
My Adventures With Superman Season 3 Can Give Superboy The Kind Of Story Titans Couldn’t
Titans Misused Superboy
Superboy’s last major appearance was in Titans, a grimdark take on DC’s iconic young superhero team. Because Titans was more similar in tone to something like Zack Snyder’s vision for his DCEU, most of the characters didn’t have the hope or optimism that they should have had, including Superboy. Superboy is a great character, and although his story can get dark at times, he deserves to be in a series that can focus on the heavier themes while also being an overall hopeful and brighter adaptation of the character.
My Adventures With Superman is the perfect show to give Superboy a story that is thematically closer to who he is as a character. Also, Titans didn’t typically have the biggest budget for a live-action show, which really limited the screen time Superboy’s powers got, largely relegating him to a more tech support focused role which didn’t do the character justice. My Adventures With Superman won’t have those same limitations, giving Superboy a bigger chance to shine when it comes to action sequences.
Why Superboy Is Perfect For My Adventures With Superman Season 3
His Addition Builds On Season 2
Bringing in Supergirl worked well for My Adventures With Superman. It gave Clark a new connection to his Kryptonian heritage by allowing him to connect with his cousin, Kara Zor-El. Bringing in Superboy for season 3 is perfect for the show as it will continue to expand the Superman family in a significant way. It can closely tie in Lex Luthor’s story to Superman, making it more personal if they go with Superboy’s modern origin story.
My Adventures With Superman season 2 ending sets up Lex Luthor to have a major role in season 3, with Lexcorp finally established and him presumably working with Deathstroke in some capacity. In most modern adaptations, Luthor is the one who creates Superboy by cloning his DNA alongside Superman’s, which seems like the most likely way for Superboy to be brought into My Adventures With Superman. It perfectly sets up a compelling conflict between Lex Luthor and Superman that is much more personal than it has been throughout the series so far.
Superboy is an important part of the Superman family, which means it was only a matter of time until My Adventures With Superman brought him into the fray. Being a hybrid clone of Superman and Lex Luthor provides the opportunity to really explore the complexities of the character, and it will be interesting to see if any specific anime will help inform his story for season 3. My Adventures With Superman does an excellent job balancing heavy story elements with an overall lighter and more hopeful tone, which feels like exactly what Superboy needs after his latest iteration.
