The Golden State Warriors are a team that people are going to be keeping a very close eye on during the 2024 NBA Offseason. Given their performance this past season, it is clear that some major moves need to be made.
As currently constructed, the Warriors aren’t even a playoff team, let alone contenders. They finished in 10th place in the Western Conference and were defeated in the NBA Play-In Tournament by the Sacramento Kings.
That means they will get a much earlier start on their offseason plans than they had hoped. That loss to the Kings could have signaled the end of an era in Golden State, as the roster could look vastly different.
Klay Thompson’s free agency will garner a lot of headlines as he could be the first member of the team’s Big 3 to depart. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green both signed extensions to remain in Golden State, but NBA rumors have swirled that the team is ready to move on from Green as well.
It will be interesting to see what route that the Warriors take this offseason. Will they look to double down and revamp the roster around Curry to try and remain contenders? Or will they do a soft reset of the roster looking to restock the roster?
If they opt to reload around Curry, Colin Cowherd believes the team should be looking to make a big swing during the 2024 NBA offseason. Cowherd thinks the Warriors should move forward with Curry, Green and Brandin Podziemski as their new core.
Who could they look to bring in and upgrade the roster around those three? Cowherd said they should swing for the fences, looking to add LeBron James and Paul George in free agency this summer.
To make room for players of that caliber, the Warriors would need to make a lot of changes to their roster. They are operating well over the salary cap and players such as Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins would need to be moved to open up some salary cap space.
If there is any indication that James and George could end up in Golden State, the Warriors need to make the necessary moves to ensure that occurs. Reloading around Curry and making one last run at an NBA Championship should be the direction they go in unless they are ready for a rebuild.
