There was tons of excitement around the New Orleans Saints when they drafted rookie QB Spencer Rattler on day three of the 2024 NFL Draft. He’s a former top-flight high school prospect with a massive arm and impressive athleticism.
As of now, he is battling Jake Haener for the backup job in New Orleans. Derek Carr is the starter for the upcoming season. Clearly, there’s a sense of long-term belief around the locker room for Rattler, though.
One of his potential future pass catchers shared some strong words on the young QB after practice on Thursday.
Chris Olave gives gleaming review of Spencer Rattler
“He’s really talented. His arm talent is off the charts.. he’s going to be real good, I want to see him in action but from my first impression he’s going to be a really good player.”

72 days until #Gamecock football! USC trailed Clemson 30-21 late in the 3rd quarter. Spencer Rattler would find Juice Wells for the 72 yard touchdown! We all know how this one ends.
But let’s remind them, USC would go on to win 31-30 and snap the biggest home winning streak… pic.twitter.com/1FHXJZkWCQ

Olave is a big fan of his game and has seen his cannon arm on full display. Rattler had some inconsistent days during OTAs and minicamp, and he’s trying to build on those reps during training camp and the preseason.
During their college days, Rattler and Olave dominated single coverage. That’s a cool tidbit for the duo.

We will see if Rattler can win the QB2 job for the Saints in 2024, but Haener won’t go down without a fight. He’s determined to grab the role after dealing with a suspension in 2023.
Fans can see Rattler in action sooner rather than later, too. Training camp will be open to the public a couple of times during August.
